  1. 1. What could have prevented the disappearance of these mountain meadows?

The meadows in Washington and Oregon have been disappearing because of the growth of trees in them made possible by the melting of snow induced by global warming. Chopping down the trees that grow in such meadows could be a solution to make the meadows less shady.

    2. What are the potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing?

Many wildflowers and other species native to meadows could become extinct if their habitats are blocked out by trees.

  2. 1. These meadows simply do not receive enough attention. They are an important vegetation type that have very high biodiversity and conservation value, but we don't focus on them. There is very minimal public awareness of the threats to meadows. This is a problem because if people were more aware of them, we could be doing more to support them and allow them to thrive instead of dwindle. Giving the meadows attention and making the public aware of this issue would aid in the prevention of the disappearance of the mountain meadows.

    2. Meadows are home to come species that cannot be found elsewhere and if we do not protect them, thispocket of biodiversity will die out. Because of all of the trees in the meadows now, it makes it so that a majority of the species cannot survive. If more trees take root, other light loving species will continue to die out.

  3. 1: What could have prevented the disappearance of these mountain meadows?

The meadows in Washington and Oregon have been diminishing because of the growth of trees made possible because of snow melt due to global warming. Ultimately, cutting down some of the trees would help the meadows retain more sunlight.

2: What are the potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing?

The potential consequences are that all of the species that rely on them are being affected. This is because of the meadows not getting enough sunlight, which directly affects consumers that can't eat because the meadows are its food. This then affects all of the other generations and hurts those species.

  4. 1. What could have prevented the disappearance of these mountain meadows?
These mountain meadows have been disappearing because they are not receiving enough sunlight because it is all blocked by the trees that are cropping up due to the melting of snow, which is a consequence of global warming. This disappearance could be prevented if the trees that grow in these meadows were chopped down.

    2. What are the potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing?
If these mountain meadows continue disappearing, many species of plant would be unable to grow any longer due to lack of sunlight and competition with all the trees. These species would go extinct, taking away the food sources for many of the animals who live in the meadow, thus making them go extinct as well.

  5. 1. The disappearing meadows could have been prevented by more matinance. Simply just humans attention to the situation. For example if global warming was to be pioneered then not as much heat would met all the snow, therefore the trees wouldn't grow and the sunlight would not be blocked.

    2. If the Mountain Meadows continue to disappear the potential consequences are simply that biodiversity dies out. Meaning without the vegetation the animals and other species have no food source and they die effect the food chain drastically so that species either have to migrate, adapt, or become extinct.

  6. 1. These mountain meadows are disappearing because the snow in these areas is melting earlier than usual, so the ground is susceptible for trees to start growing, and the trees will eventually grow large enough to block the sunglight from reaching the lower plants on the meadow floor. I think that this could be prevented in the long run by decreasing the effects of anything that might be contributing to global warming, such as pollution, so that the snow will not continue to melt early and trees will not be able to grow in the meadows.

    2. If the mountain meadows continue disappearing, potential condequences could include a loss of biodiversity in the area among plants as well as animals that may live in the meadows or use the meadow plants as a source of nutrients, and this would, in turn, affect the rest of the food chain around those plants and animals as well.

  7. Definately the proper attention could prevent the mountain meadows from dissapearing, cutting down some trees to have the sun shine on lower level plants such as flowers.

The potential consequences if these mountain meadows continue to dissapear would be a decline or extinction of species that are unique to the area, which could lead to a decrease in nutrients to the area.

  9. 1. what could have prevented the disappearance of this meadows would be cutting the trees down in the mountain that would not allow any light to shine on top of the meadows, because the trees created a shade over the meadows which started to cause the disappearance of these mountain meadows.

2.well for one, there wouldn't be another mountain meadow as breathtaking as this one, and the biodiversity of rare species of plants would die out due to the growth of trees. this would lead towards the extinction of these species of plants that only grow in these mountain meadows.

  10. 1.The disappearance of these mountain meadows could have been prevented by humans being more aware of their surroundings and environmental impacts. The problem in these meadows is the fact that the snow melts earlier causing more trees to grow. This is caused by global warming so if humans were more active and maintained their habitat this wouldn't happen as much. More snow melt earlier on means less sunlight for the natural meadows that inhabit this area, and therefore they cannot grow properly.

    2. The potential consequences if mountain meadows continue disappearing is that the species that live there would decline. This meadow homes a suite of species that aren't found anywhere else and it is important to preserve the biodiversity here and in other meadows to keep a variety of species and systems alive.

  11. 1. The disappearance of these mountain meadows could have been prevented by not cutting down trees because it provided shade for many things and just the right sunlight for plants to grow. Now, with trees gone, everything living in the ecosystem received to much sun and caused them to die.

    2. The potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing would be the rapid rate at which living organisms die. This leads to having an extinction of the living things.

  13. 1. We could stop the disappearance of these mountains because they do not receive enough attention. The mountain meadows are important vegetation because they have a high level of biodiversity and conservation value. They could also be prevented by slowing the cutting of trees because they provide shade as well a stable soil for the plants to grow. Also, the public is not aware of the problem and the importance. If more people know about them, we could be doing more in terms of supporting them so they thrive rather then lead to their demise.

    2. Because these meadows are home to many types of species that cannot be found anywhere else, and if we continue to not protect them, biodiversity will die out. If the meadows continue to be taken over by trees, species that need more light will continue to die out and Because of all of the trees in the meadows now, it makes it so that a majority of the species cannot survive.

  14. 1. The disappearance of mountain meadows could easily have been prevented. Doing this would have involved not deforesting the surrounding areas, which would have allowed for the shade provided by trees to remain on the meadow, which is essential for the rest of the plants in the meadow.

    2. Potential consequences of of the disappearances of mountain meadows would be a massive decrease in biodiversity in alpine biomes, as well as a rapid extinction of several species.

  15. 1. What could have prevented the disappearance of these mountain meadows?
A possible solution for preventing the disappearance of the mountain meadows would be to see how the growth of the trees causes shade for the vegetation below, which blocks out the sunlight needed for the vegetation in the meadow. Also due to the fact that the snow melts earlier, the trees that block the meadow vegetation are able to grow easier, causing disappearances of the mountain meadows.

    2. What are the potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing?
The consequences that could ensue if the Mountain Meadows continue to disappear would be less animal populations being their due to the change in the environment and not being to adapt accordingly. This would lead to the extinction of populations within the ecosystem.

  16. 1. The mountain meadows started disappearing when the trees started blocking the light that the meadow plants needed. Therefore, if the trees were removed, the meadows could continue to flourish.

    2. If mountain meadows continue disappearing, the plants that used to grow there would die off. This would decrease the overall biodiversity of the region, which has major effects on the ecosystem.

  17. 1) What could have prevented these meadow plants from disappearing was the control of the growth of trees in that area so that they don't shade the meadow plants and prevent them from getting enough light.

2)The causes from the mountain meadows disappearing would be that the biodiversity would die out and would affect the ecosystem overall.

  18. 1. These meadows do not receive enough attention. They are an important vegetation type that have very high biodiversity and conservation value, but we don't focus on them. For example we could have prevented the tree growth and shade increase to minimize the lost.

    2. Meadows are home to species that are extremely rare, this of biodiversity will die out. Because of all of the trees in the meadows now, it makes it so that a majority of the species cannot survive. If this continues we will only continue to lose species.

  19. 1. The meadows could have been saved from disappearing by controlling the growth of the trees. The trees blocked the sunlight from reaching the meadows and they required sunlight to survive so if we had controlled the trees they wouldn't have blocked the sunlight from reaching the meadow.
    2. One of the potential consequences would be the extinction or endangerment of species in the area which could lead to a decrease in the biodiversity of the area.

  20. 1. The meadows could have been saved by preventing the growth of trees. The trees shaded to other plant species that were in the meadows, so they could not get the sunlight they needed to live. This reduced the biodiversity.
    2. Potential consequences include the lose of species that are unique to these meadows, an overall decrease of biodiversity. This could effect the ecosystem as a whole, maybe even hurting animal populations by hurting their habitat.

  21. 1. The disappearance of these mountain meadows could have been prevented by controlling the growth of trees that grew due to the melting of snow. The increased growth of trees blocked off the sunlight that went to other species causing them to die out
    2. One of the potential consequences that could come from the disappearance of mountain meadows would be the extinction of plants and animals only present in these areas. The extinction of these species could cause harm to the overall ecosytem

  22. 1. if we slowed the reproduction rate of trees the meadows could continue to exists. The trees blocked sunlight and killed the meadow plants, so it stands to reason that removing the trees would allow the meadow pants to grow
    2. The consequence of meadows disappearing is meadows disappearing. That should be a reason enough to try and stop them from disappearing

  23. 1. The disappearance of mountain meadows could have been avoided by clear cutting or controlled burns of the forest in order to kill encroaching trees which would intrude on the meadow lands, which would allow the meadows to survive and thrive.
2.If mountain meadows are allowed to continue to disappear, then possible consequences could be extinction of species that can only survive in the meadows or animals that rely on the meadow for some resource such as food. This would be bad because extinction of plants and animals is inevitable but terrible none the less.

The disappearance of these mountain meadows could have been avoided by the removal of the trees encroaching on the meadows.
    2. What are the potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing?
Potential consequences of the continued disappearance of the mountain meadows include the extinction of many species unique to meadows and sensitive to shade such as alpine aster, black sedge and certain species of lupines.

  25. 1. What could have prevented the disappearance of these mountain meadows?
    - Prevention of the mountain meadows could potentially be attributed to the removal of trees. the sun cover that the trees provide tend to prevent the growing of plants(flowers), and controlled logging or burning could help to maintain the flower population.

    2. What are the potential consequences if Mountain Meadows continue disappearing?
    - loss of native flora and fauna would be the major consequence of denying the flowers ( food chain) sufficient energy.

  26. 1) Mountain meadows can be saved by increasing logging, to increase the amount of sun hitting the meadow floor.

    2) The loss of a habitat, and the possible extinction of all animals/ plants associated with it
