  1. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
-The spike has likely been caused by an increase in sea lion population, global warming, food shortages, and leaving there mothers earlier than usual. No one knows for sure the definite cause if the spike in sick sea lions.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
    - I'm not sure if it is the main contribution factor to the increase in disease, but it can't be helping. Bacteria has an easier time living and thriving at warmer temperatures, so an increase in temperature by a few degrees could significantly increase the rate of sickness.

  2. 1. according to the article there seem to be no cases of outbreaks in the spike of the sicknesses of sea lions, and they seem to be much more lethargic than the sea lions in past years. i personally think that the reason is the climate change becuase there is an increased temperature in the world and there is excess heat which could be affecting the sea lions becuase they are built will lots of blubber in order to keep warm in the cold waters, but with climate change the water has begun to become warmer possibly causing hyperthermia on the sea lions.

2.much to what i have explained above, but also the climate change could be messing with their internal functions due to the excess of heat which could be leaving them lethargic as the article explains.

  3. 1 - The spike may be due to a number of factors, including (but not limited to): food shortages, climate change, polution, and increases in the seal population. There's no disease outbreak as far as scientists can tell, and no underlying obvious reason. However, nobody is actually positive of any one cause.

2 - Climate change can affect seals in a couple ways. Because of warmer water temperatures, sea lions may be becoming more lethargic (in the same way that humans do) as a symptom of heat stroke. In addition, warmer temperatures might make it easier for bacteria to grow and spread, prompting disease outbreaks. Also, the sea lions may lose important blubber, which primarily warms them but also helps them float. Less blubber could lead to having to work harder to swim or catch prey. This would make them more lethargic after working hard to swim, and could also result in starvation if they become too tired to catch prey.

  4. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
Likely causes include food shortages, climate change or an increase in the number of sea lion births.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
Honestly, according to the article it doesn't seem like climate change is directly causing the spike in sick sea lions, because according to the article they seem to become better as they receive what sounds like a simple treatment of nourishing food. Maybe climate change is contributing to a shortage of food causing them to be malnourished which would weaken their immune system and make them more susceptible to disease.

  5. Some pausible reasons.for the spike in the number of sick sea lions are the increase of population, food shortage and pollution.there is no obvious reason for the spike at the moment.

The climate change can affect sea lions to a great extent their food supply could be migrating/dying due to an increase of temperature. Increase in bacteria growth in the water.

  7. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
At the moment there are no exact known causes for the spike in the number of sick sea lions but the theories that researchers and scientists hold at the moment are that there is a food shortage, climate changes, or simply the fact that many more sea lions are being born, and its having a large impact on their community. In order to try and figure out what is causing all these sicknesses scientists are still conducting blood tests, and research.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
I think that climate change has a fairly good extent on the amount of sick sea lions. I think this because when global temperatures rise then the temperatures of the seas, and land can rise as well which could cause the habitat of sea lions to be altered and they may have a hard time adapting. As well as this higher temperatures can cause it to be harder for sea lions to regulate their body temperatures especially after hunting or swimming.

  8. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?

Most scientists are saying food shortages, globably warming, and population growth, but it's ll very cloudy and unclear. Because of this lack of clarity, scientists are studying the animals meticulously to see if they can even find what is wrong with them.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?

Well probably some of the fish that the sea lions eat aren't doing super well in warm water and flopping off. Also, as oceans rise, sea lions could be confused about how to hunt because they are swimming in familiar water as well as in waters that are not native to them because they have melted off of glaciers. Sea lions could be becoming all hot and lazy because they are two warm and well-insulated. They could also be suffering from diseases that do well in warm water.

  9. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
The spike in number of sick sea lions could be attributed to many causes. Some of the main causes include, food shortages, climate change in which the water becomes hotter and the animals become sick as well as pollution, which contaminates the water, sickening the sea lions. In order to figure out what the sea lions are quite sick, scientists still need to conduct further research such as blood tests, to attribute a cause.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
Climate change has a moderately effective extent on the sickness and amount of sick sea lions. The climate change can affect the seals in many ways. The main reasons include, warmer temperatures, in which the water is becoming hotter and the sea lions are unable to maintain their natural habitat. Also, the sea lions may be becoming slower, much like the progression of humans as a result of heat strokes. Also, the rise in temperatures could lead to the creation of bacteria and provide a suitable environment for it to grow and spread, which could lead to disease outbreaks. The heat could also be killing off the food for the sea lions in which they would become diseased or starve as a result.

  10. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
Some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions include food shortages, climate change causing the water to become hotter and therefore the sea lions to get sick, and pollution which contaminates the water and causes the sea lions to get sick.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
I don't think that climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions to a very great extent, because really it seems that other factors are the cause of the sick sea lions. However, sea lion sickness could be indirectly due to climate change, for example if climate change causes food shortages which leads to sickness.

  11. 1) Some likely causes in the spike could be food shortages, climate changes in the waters temperature, or biochemical warfare from the sharks...
    2) Climate change may have some impact on the seals health because it has an impact on everything

  12. 1. Different theories about the recent spike in sick sea lions include food shortages, climate change, or an increase in the number of sea lion births. The sea lions are malnourished and dehydrated because they have left their mothers early, for reasons unknown. They also seem to have a lot less energy than what the average sea lion should have.

    2. Climate change could possibly be affecting the amount of sick sea lions to a very large extent because of its many consequences by affecting small aspects of marine life. For example, if sea temperatures are increasing, this could affect the survival of a plethora of marine life, which could alter the marine food chain and would eventually affect the diet of the sea lion by altering it from its normal diet, having a negative effect on its health.

  13. 1. Some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions are: climate change, increase in number of sea lions birth, or food shortages.

    2. I think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions to a maximum extent because climate change affects many aspects of the marine life, such as increased number of births and food shortages.

  14. 1. There are a few causes for why the number of sick sea lions is increasing. These causes are thought to be a shortage in food, climate change, and an increase in the number of sea lion births.

    2. I think that climate change affects the number of sick lions very much because climate change affects the food shortage and the number of births. Also climate change affects other aspects of the sea lions' life like its habitat, which could lead to more of them being sick.

  15. 1.Officialy no one knows why there was a spike in the number of sick sea lions, but theoretically it is believed that the spike has occurred due to climate changes, food shortages, and an increase in sea lion births.
    2. Climate change may not be the reason that sea lions are getting sick for now, but it does have an effect on the sea lions to a certain extent. Their habitats can be altered in decreasing amounts of water, or less available food because of a change in plant growth. Their bodies can also not adapt well to the changes and harm their health such as the way that other animals can't be in extreme heat or cold

  16. 1. Some ideas for the spike in sick sea lions include food shortages, climate change, and an increase in births. Sea lions leave their moothers early and are left dehydrated and malnourished. They also lack energy.
    2. Climate change can affect the number of sick sea lions to a great extent due to how it affects marine life. When water temperature increase, this has an impact on all of the marine life and food chains within it. This can lead to a higher number of sick sea lions.

  17. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
A reason for the cause of spike in the number of sick sea lions could be due to the climate change, food shortages, and an increase in the number of sea lions that are produced.

    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
I think that climate change can have an affect on the amount of sick sea lions to a substantial extent. This can be because climate change has a great affect on marine life.

  18. Climate change is the main attributable cause to the sick sea lions. However, alterations in their food source, or their increase reproduction rates could also heavily affect the situation.

Climate change is probably a huge reason that the sea lions are becoming sick. It is the cause in so many other issues with disease found in other aquatic life. It is possible that it isn't involved but i find that unlikely.

  19. 1. There is much debate as to what caused the sick sea lions, but some likely causes include an increase in birth rates, food shortages (which may be related to population size), climate change, and changing social patterns.
    2. I think it is likely that climate change could affect the number of sick sea lions because an increase in water temperature could hurt the sea lions directly as well as deplete their food source populations. Both of these effects can cause health problems.

  20. MIA CURTIC

    1. The most probable reason for the sickness of the sea lions is climate change. Other factors could include changes in birth rates, or changes in food supply.

    2. I think that climate change is most likely to affect the sea lions in that the increase temperature of the water can affect the immunities of the sea lions. Also, climate change synonymous with pollution, so the climate change leads to pollution, which most definitely has a negative impact on the sea lion's health.

  21. The sickness of the sea lions is unknown but could be attributed to climate change, food shortages, and a larger population size.

Climate change may increase the temperature of the water and their environment which could help diseases survive and alter their diets and health.

  24. 1. What are some of the likely causes for the spike in number of sick sea lions?
According to the article, sea lions are showing up malnourished and dehydrated, most likely because they leaving their mothers. The suspected reasons for this is either lack of resources to care for young or a huge population boom in sea lion numbers. This would mean that either sea lions do not have enough to eat and are abandoning their pups or their is an abundance of food but not enough mothers to care for young who are abandoned or leave.
    2. To what extent do you think climate change affects the amount of sick sea lions?
Rising temperatures is killing coral reefs, which is an ecosystem that supports large number of lives in the oceans. With a shrinking eco-system, less food for fishes and in turn sea lions are affected by this, so climate change most likely has a large effect on the sick sea lions.
